Almost every proposal inquiry I get starts the same way: “This is going to sound bad, but—how much is this?” It doesn’t sound bad. It’s the first thing you need to know, and most photographers in South Florida make you fill out a form and wait two days to find out. So here it is, plainly.
In West Palm Beach in 2026, a proposal with a decorated set-up and photo coverage runs $750. Add video and it’s $950. A fully custom luxury set-up is $1,300. If you only want the moment photographed with no decor at all, that’s an engagement-style session at $350.
Below is exactly what sits behind each of those numbers, what makes the price move, and how far ahead you actually need to book for fall and holiday season.
The three proposal packages, and what’s actually in them
Proposal Set-Up — $750
This is the one most people book. I design and build the set-up — flowers, candles, a rug or picnic, the neon sign if you want one — then I hide, photograph the whole thing as it happens, and stay for portraits after she says yes. You get roughly 30 edited favorites, chosen by you from the full gallery.
The build is the part people underestimate. A heart arch on sand takes about two hours to set up properly and has to survive wind, tide timing and whoever decides to walk through your frame. That labor is most of what you’re paying for.
Proposal Photo + Video — $950
Same set-up, same photo coverage, plus video. You get a short edited film of the proposal — the walk up, the knee, the reaction, the phone calls to her mom. Couples who skip this are usually the ones who message me two weeks later asking if I happened to have any video. I do not, unless you booked it.
The $200 difference is small compared to what it buys, and vertical video is what actually gets sent to family and posted the same night.
Luxury Custom — $1,300
For proposals with a specific vision: larger floral installations, custom signage, a rooftop or private venue instead of a beach, multiple set-up elements, or a reveal with family hidden nearby. We plan it together and I build to your design rather than to a standard package. Photo and video are both included.
Why a proposal costs more than an engagement session
This surprises people, so it’s worth being direct about it: the photography is identical. Same lenses, same number of images, same delivery, same editing. A $350 engagement session and a $1,300 luxury proposal produce the same quality of photograph.
What you’re paying the difference for is the production — sourcing and building the set-up, scouting the exact spot, timing the light, coordinating the fake dinner reservation that gets her to the beach at 6:40 instead of 7:15, and running the whole thing without her noticing. That’s the work. The camera is the easy part.
Which also means: if you have your own plan and just want the moment covered beautifully, book the engagement session and keep the $400. I’ll tell you that on the phone too.
What’s included in every package
- Every raw photo, delivered in under 24 hours. Not a teaser. The full gallery, low-resolution, in your inbox the next morning — because you’re going to want to send something to family that night, and because you should be the one choosing which frames get edited.
- You pick the favorites. Around 30 images for proposal packages get the full edit, and you choose them.
- One person, start to finish. I build the set-up, shoot the photos and run the video myself. Fewer people on the beach means fewer ways for her to notice something is off.
- No travel fee from Boca Raton to Port St. Lucie. West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Jupiter, Delray, Boca — same price.
- Portraits after the yes. The first ten minutes after she says yes are the best portraits you’ll ever get of the two of you. We use them.
What moves the price
The packages are flat, but a few things genuinely change the scope:
- Video. The single biggest swing, and the most common regret when it’s skipped. A standalone cinematic video runs $450–$600 if added to a session that didn’t originally include it.
- Location type. Public beach and park set-ups are straightforward. Private venues, rooftops, restaurants and gated communities need coordination and sometimes approval, which is where Luxury Custom comes in.
- Scale of the build. A picnic with candles and a small floral arrangement is a different afternoon than a full heart arch with a neon sign and cold-spark fountains.
- Family or friends hidden for the reveal. Doable and wonderful, but it’s another moving part to choreograph.
How far ahead should you book?
Two weeks is the realistic minimum for a set-up proposal — flowers have to be ordered and the location has to be scouted. Four to six weeks is comfortable.
For fall and the holidays, book earlier than you think. Thanksgiving week and the stretch from mid-December through New Year’s Eve are the busiest proposal dates of the entire year in Palm Beach County, and they’re usually spoken for by early November. If you’re planning to propose while her family is in town for the holidays, that date is worth locking now.
Last-minute is not impossible — I’ve built set-ups on 48 hours’ notice more than once. It just narrows what’s available.
