Palm Beach Proposal Photography: The Holiday Booking Timeline for 2026

Florida's engagement season runs October through February, and the best Palm Beach proposal dates fill months early. Here's when each holiday window closes, how far ahead to book, real 2026 package pricing, and the local spots worth considering.

Every year it happens the same way. Someone messages me on December 18th asking if I’m free on Christmas Eve, and I have to tell them the truth: that date filled in October. Palm Beach proposal photography runs on a calendar most people don’t see until they’re already inside it, and by the time the holiday decorations go up on Clematis Street, the best dates are gone.

Florida’s engagement season runs from roughly October through February. The humidity breaks, the light turns gold instead of white, and families fly in for the holidays — which is exactly why so many people choose these weeks to propose. If you’re planning to ask before the year ends, mid-September is not early. It’s right on time. For this month specifically, the October proposal set-up package in Wellington and West Palm Beach explains how the planning works.

Here’s the honest timeline, what a session costs and includes, and the dates I’d book first.

The holiday dates that go first in Palm Beach County

Not all December is equal. In my calendar, these are the windows that close earliest, roughly in this order:

  • The Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving. Family is already in town, everyone’s off work, and the beaches are beautiful. This is the single most requested proposal weekend of the year.
  • Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Limited slots, and they’re usually spoken for by late October or early November.
  • The week between Christmas and New Year’s. Visitors everywhere, warm evenings, and a very high concentration of “we’re all here anyway” proposals.
  • New Year’s Eve, before dinner. The golden-hour window is narrow and it books as a single slot.
  • Valentine’s weekend. Further out, but people who plan ahead are already asking about it.

One thing worth knowing about winter here: the sun sets early. By late December, golden hour on the Palm Beach coast lands around 4:30 to 5:30 in the afternoon, not 7:30 like it does in June. That compresses everything. There is one good light window per day, and once it’s booked, it’s booked.

How far ahead you actually need to book

This depends entirely on whether you want a set-up or just the photos.

Photography only, no set-up: two to three weeks is usually workable outside the peak dates. During Thanksgiving-to-New-Year’s, make it four to six weeks.

Any package with a physical set-up — florals, candles, the neon sign, cold-spark fountains — needs a minimum of three to four weeks. Not because the setup takes that long to build, but because flowers get ordered, permits get requested where the location requires them, and I have to physically hold the date and the hours before and after it. I can’t compress that.

Luxury custom builds: five to six weeks, comfortably. These involve sourcing pieces specifically for you, and rushing them is how they end up looking rushed.

If you’re reading this in September and aiming at Thanksgiving weekend, you’re in the sweet spot. If you’re reading it in November aiming at Christmas Eve, message me anyway — sometimes a date opens up — but have a second date in mind.

What a proposal session includes and what it costs

All my proposal work in Palm Beach County comes in three tiers, and there’s no hidden pricing:

  • Set-Up — $695. The décor build plus photography of the proposal.
  • Photo + Video — $895. Same set-up, and I capture both stills and video of the moment. This is the one most people pick, because the video is what gets sent to family that night.
  • Luxury Custom — $1,295. A build designed around your idea specifically — larger florals, custom signage, the works.

Every tier includes 30 edited photos. And here’s the part that matters more than the number: you see every photo in a private preview gallery in under 24 hours. Not a curated gallery I chose for you three weeks later — all of them, the next day, and you pick which ones get edited. I built my whole workflow around this because a proposal is not an event you should have to wait a month to see.

It’s also worth being clear that I work alone. One person shows up, builds the set-up, hides, shoots the moment, and shoots the video. That’s deliberate. A second body on the beach is a second thing for her to notice, and the entire job is not being noticed until the ring is out.

Where these happen around Palm Beach

The beach is the default for good reason, but it isn’t the only option and it isn’t always the right one. A few directions I get asked about constantly:

The oceanfront in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach. Classic, and the light off the water at sunrise is genuinely spectacular — sunrise proposals are underrated here, and the beach is nearly empty. Some municipalities have rules about setups and permits on the sand, which I walk clients through before we pick a spot. I wrote a full breakdown in my guide to beach proposal permits near West Palm Beach.

Wellington and Royal Palm Beach. Quieter, greener, and much easier logistically if you live out west. Good for couples who want something private without a public beach in the frame.

Jupiter and DuBois Park. The inlet, the lighthouse in the distance, water on two sides. Worth the drive if you want something that doesn’t look like everyone else’s photos.

Loxahatchee and The Acreage. Open space, big sky, no crowd at all. This is where I take couples who want the proposal to feel like it belonged only to them.

What happens after she says yes

Most couples don’t think this far ahead, and then they’re glad they did. The proposal photos are all reaction — joy, tears, hands over the face. Beautiful, but not the images you put on a save-the-date.

An engagement session is $545 (Essential $395) and gives you 50 photos where you’re both composed, dressed the way you want to be seen, and actually looking at the camera. A lot of my clients book both together and shoot the engagement a few weeks later, once the ring is sized and the news is out — it’s also how we learn how you two move in front of a camera before the wedding day, when there’s no time to learn.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a proposal photographer cost in Palm Beach?

My packages run $695 for the Set-Up, $895 for Photo + Video, and $1,295 for a Luxury Custom build. All three include 30 edited photos and every photo in a private preview gallery in under 24 hours. There’s a fuller breakdown in my proposal photographer cost guide.

How far in advance should I book a holiday proposal?

Four to six weeks for any date between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, and five to six weeks if you want a luxury custom set-up. Outside the holidays, two to three weeks is usually enough for photography without a build.

What if she says no, or I have to cancel?

Talk to me. Plans change, flights get moved, and people get cold feet — I’d rather reschedule you than have you stressed about a deposit. Just tell me as early as you can (at least 48 hours before) so I can move the date, and your deposit moves with it.

Do I need a permit to propose on the beach?

It depends on the municipality and on whether you’re bringing a physical set-up. A couple standing on the sand is fine. Florals, candles, and furniture are a different conversation, and the rules vary between the Town of Palm Beach and West Palm Beach. I handle that part — you don’t need to go read ordinances.

Can you do sunrise instead of sunset?

Yes, and in winter I often prefer it. The beaches are empty, the light is soft, and you’re not competing with a crowd. It’s a very good option for December, when the evening window is short and busy.

Book your date before it’s gone

If you already know you’re proposing before the year ends, the move right now is to pick your date and lock it. Everything else — the location, the set-up, the plan for getting her there — we can figure out together after the date is held.

Check my availability and book your proposal session here, or read through the full proposal set-up, photo and video packages first if you’re still deciding which tier fits. If you want to talk it through before you commit, that’s fine too — I’d rather help you plan a good one than sell you a package.

And if you’re still in the “I think I want to do this” stage, start with my complete guide to planning a surprise proposal in Palm Beach. It covers the part nobody tells you about: how to get her to the right place, at the right time, without her figuring it out.
