- Does their editing style match what you want — natural and warm, or heavily retouched?
- Do they deliver quickly, or is the turnaround weeks?
- Are they bilingual, if your family needs that?
Six months out, most good photographers still have weekend dates available. Wait until two months out, and the best ones are fully booked — especially during spring and fall in South Florida, when the weather is perfect and every quinceañera, Sweet 16, and wedding is competing for the same Saturdays.
4–5 Months Before: Book and Pay Your Deposit
Once you’ve found the right photographer, lock in the date. Most photographers require a deposit (typically 25–50% of the total) to hold your date. This is standard and protects both sides — you get a guaranteed commitment, and the photographer turns down other bookings for that date.

If you’ve done the planning right, you shouldn’t have to think about photography at all on the day itself. That’s the whole point.
What Happens if You Wait Too Long?
It’s not the end of the world — but your options shrink. The photographers with the strongest portfolios and best reviews fill their weekends first. Booking last-minute usually means either paying a rush premium, settling for someone less experienced, or compromising on the date.
The simplest way to avoid that: book as soon as you have a venue date confirmed.
