Think of it as the “glamour shoot.” There’s no party chaos, no timeline pressure, no 200 guests waiting. It’s just your daughter, the dress, the crown, and a photographer with enough time to get every angle right.
What the pre-session is for:
- Invitations and save-the-dates — use the photos in print or digital invitations weeks before the party
- Table displays and signage — large prints of the dress photos at the entrance, on the cake table, or as centerpieces
- Social media teasers — build excitement before the event
- The album — the pre-session photos are usually the most polished ones in the final collection, because there’s time to perfect every detail
What Are Party Day Photos?
Party day coverage is exactly what it sounds like: a photographer at the event, capturing the full story as it unfolds. Depending on the package, that can mean 3–5 hours of coverage, from getting ready through the last dance.
What party day photos capture that a pre-session can’t:
- The real moments — the look on dad’s face during the first dance, the friends screaming when she walks in, abuela crying during the toast
- The energy — dance floor chaos, confetti, the cake, the shoe ceremony, the group shots with the court
- The family portraits — formal groupings with extended family, which only happen when everyone is together at the event
- The candids — friends laughing, cousins whispering, the birthday girl taking it all in
Party photos are raw and emotional. They’re the documentary record of the day — and they’re the ones that make you tear up ten years later.
Pre-Session vs. Party Day: An Honest Comparison
Neither one replaces the other. They serve completely different purposes:
- The pre-session gives you controlled, beautiful, magazine-style portraits. Perfect lighting, no rush, every detail of the dress and accessories showcased.
- The party day gives you the real story — emotion, energy, family, and all the unscripted moments that make the celebration memorable.
If you can only choose one, choose the party day. The real moments are irreplaceable — you can always do a portrait session later, but you can’t recreate your daughter’s genuine reaction when she sees the decorated venue for the first time.
But if you can do both? That’s where the magic happens.
