Coral Cove is a small Palm Beach County beach park, under 10 acres, at 1600 Beach Road in Tequesta, open sunrise to sunset. See all my engagement sessions.
The park has 600 feet of guarded beach by the parking lot and, to the south, more than 2,000 feet of unguarded beach reached by dune crossovers. That second stretch is where we go: a few minutes of walking and the towels and umbrellas are behind us.
The park also has about 600 feet of frontage on the Intracoastal Waterway, so on a 75-minute session we can finish on the calm side as the light gets warm.
The beach faces east. At sunrise the color is over the ocean and the sand is almost empty; it is the best hour for wide photos of the two of you walking. The park opens at sunrise, so we meet in the lot a few minutes before.
Before sunset the beach is in soft, even light, which is kind to skin and easy for close portraits. The park closes at sunset, so we finish with the last light.
Coral Cove belongs to Palm Beach County, which requires a permit for a business to run professional photo sessions in its parks; engagement photos are on the county’s list. Balloons are prohibited at this park, to protect sea turtles.
Wear sandals you can slip off for the dune crossovers, and bring a light layer in winter: the wind off the ocean is cooler than you expect at sunrise.

Mostly on the unguarded beach south of the park, which you reach by the dune crossovers. It is more than 2,000 feet long, so there is room to walk away from other people. We start near the lot and move south as the light changes.
Sunrise for wide, colorful photos over the ocean; the hour before sunset for soft light and close portraits. The park is open sunrise to sunset, so both sessions are timed around those limits.
Soft, solid colors that move: cream, light blue, sage, sand. A flowing dress photographs beautifully in the ocean wind. Avoid big logos. If you book the 75-minute session, bring a second outfit and change at the car.
The Classic Engagement is $395: 45 minutes, one location and 30 edited photos. The Signature Session is $545, with 75 minutes, two locations and 50 photos. Signature + Reel is $795 and adds a 60-second vertical reel.
