The park has 3,000 feet of guarded beach, so there is always a stretch without towels and umbrellas behind you. Between the parking lots and the sand you cross dunes and sea grapes that give a second, greener background without moving the car.
It is also an easy park for a family day: playgrounds for ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, restrooms, outdoor showers and 26 family picnic shelters. Kids who have played for ten minutes smile better than kids who came straight from the car seat.
The beach faces east. Early morning gives soft light on the water and an empty beach; the last hour before sunset gives warm light on the dune side with the ocean in open shade. With toddlers I usually suggest the morning.
The main entrance is at 400 S. State Road A1A; the Seabreeze Amphitheater has its own entrance at 750 S. A1A. I send you a pin the day before so nobody circles the lots. If someone in the family uses a wheelchair, the park has a beach surf wheelchair you can arrange with a lifeguard.
Palm Beach County requires a permit for a business to run professional photo sessions in its parks, and group and family portraits are on the county’s list. Plan your date at least a week out. Balloons are prohibited at this park, so leave them out of birthday or announcement ideas.
Prices are before tax. Groups of more than 6 people add $45 per extra person. The county photography permit is a separate fee set by Palm Beach County; check the county parks page for the current amount.
