This photo session day checklist covers the few choices that matter: two or three colors for the whole family, kids fed and rested, and the exact meeting point and parking, which I send the day before. Here is the rest, so the day feels easy.
Nobody needs to match exactly. A calm palette and clothes you can move in photograph better than any perfect outfit.
Colors that work
At the beach: cream, sand, soft gray, white, light blue and navy. At the park: earth tones, olive, mustard and dusty blue. Pick two or three colors for the whole family and let everyone choose their own piece within them.
Skip logos, characters, neon, thin stripes and all black. Fabrics that move, like linen, cotton and flowy dresses, photograph best.
Kids and pets
Kids come fed. Bring a snack and a small change of clothes; shoes come off at the beach. Pets are welcome where the location allows them: bring the leash and treats.
Maternity and headshots
Maternity: a long dress that shows the bump. If you rent one, ask me for colors before you order so it works with the light and the place.
Headshots: solid mid or dark colors, two or three tops, pressed.

Light rain, we shoot. Heavy rain, we move your date and your payment moves with it, so nothing is lost.

No. Pick two or three colors for the whole family and let everyone choose their own piece inside that palette. Matching exactly looks flat; a calm range looks natural.
