Ocean Reef is a Palm Beach County beach park of about 13 acres at 3860 North Ocean Drive in Riviera Beach, open sunrise to sunset. See all my family photography sessions.
The beach has 700 feet of guarded frontage, and the park is small, which matters with a stroller and a bag of outfits. A dune ecosystem overlook gives a second background, dunes and sky, a few steps from the beach.
The park also has picnic areas with grills, restrooms, outdoor showers and a playground for ages 5 to 12. I like to start with the kids there for five minutes, so they arrive at the beach already laughing.
The beach faces east. Early morning gives soft light on the water, cool sand and very few people; it is my first choice with babies and toddlers. The last hour before sunset gives even, gentle light on the sand, which is flattering and easy on everyone’s eyes.
If you are staying on Singer Island, the park is a short drive, so a sunrise session is easier than it sounds.
Balloons are prohibited at Ocean Reef Park, to protect sea turtles, so we keep birthday and announcement ideas balloon-free. Ocean Reef is a county park, and Palm Beach County requires a permit for professional photo sessions in its parks; family portraits are on its list.
Prices are before tax. Groups of more than 6 people add $45 per extra person. The county photography permit is a separate fee set by Palm Beach County; check the county parks page for the current amount.
A 25% deposit holds your date; the balance is due on the day of the session.

Yes. The beach is guarded, the park is small, and there is a playground for ages 5 to 12, restrooms and outdoor showers. A beach surf wheelchair is available through the lifeguards if someone in the family needs it.
Early morning for soft light over the ocean and an empty beach, or the last hour before sunset for even light on the sand. The park is open sunrise to sunset, so we plan inside those hours.
